From what I understand, M & S didn't entirely withdraw their ad - they just asked for it to be moved elsewhere and away from the Jan Moir article. So the Daily Mail didn't actually lose advertising revenue from M & S, although they did get a clear signal about the sort of stories advertisers would be embarrassed to be associated with.
