I am unable to understand how a man of honor could take a newspaper in his hands without a shudder of disgust.

I found myself in a similar situation last night when having this very discussion. I put forward many of the points you outlined in your post, and a few more of my own. What I got for my trouble was a lot of anger that I was shouting down at them (I wasn't) and I was somehow stifling free speech (I wasn't). The irony was that the one that accused me most of shouting down at people (I wasn't) was standing over me pointing jabbing a pointed finger at me while shouting at me more stuff he read in a newspaper. Sometimes I dispair, I really do.
