The public have an insatiable curiosity to know everything. Except what is worth knowing. Journalism, conscious of this, and having tradesman-like habits, supplies their demands.

Racism is wrong ... regardless of the source PDF Print E-mail

Completely agree. Where I live (Glasgow) there is a fairly sizable Pakistani community. My local shop, however, is run by an Indian couple. Nonetheless, it still is referred to as the "Paki" shop, which is both insulting, and completely wrong. Another dumb argument I've heard is the "Well, I've heard Asian people use the word Paki" before, which is akin to the "black people call each other niggers" argument. Still doesn't make it right! Infact, the Indian lady at the aforementioned shop actually called a customer who was in front of me one day a "f***ing Paki" after he'd left the shop because he couldn't understand her. The source doesn't make it any less of a racist sentiment. I now use another corner shop 5 minutes down the road, which is run by a lovely Pakistani woman who is very friendly and always puts a smile on my face when popping in for a paper on the way to work :)
