I was saying similar to a mate yesterday.
The Mail (and Express and Sun to an extent) write what Jan did every single day. The only difference is that Jan didn't imply and infer things as most articles do, instead she came straight out and said what she thought. I wonder if people are backlashing the message or the bluntness.
Because this is done everyday I wonder if this will have any impact at all. Those who hate the mail will continue to do so. Those who love it will continue to do so. Sure, some may leave but I wonder how many will return when withdrawal sets in.
In the Mailwatch Forums we have hundreds, if not thousands of examples of stories from the past few years which are obviously, if subtly, homophobic, xenophobic, woman bashing etc., and a lot of the time we explain why they're so full of shit.
I sincerely hope that the Moir incident will wake people up to the Mail's tactics. But given they do it daily and still get so many readers, I think it's going to take something very big to make a proper impact.
In relation to advertisers. TBPH I don't think M&S withdrew because of tolerance issues, I think they withdrew to save face. Boycotting advertisers is fine, but it has to be done on a large scale and they have to know the reasons why.
