Jan Moir in the Daily Mail: Sickening Homophobia PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 October 2009 10:41

Hagley Road to Ladywood announced it last week: anti-gay propaganda is back at the top of the Mail agenda.

Since Stephen Gately's death last week, the Daily Mail has been desperately trying to dig up some dirt.

In spite of official confirmations that the Boyzone star died of natural causes, the Mail has decided that the unfortunate death of an innocent 33-year-old man is fair game (see, for instance, Paul Scott's unashamed hatchet job the day after Gately's death).

The lowest point was hit today by Jan Moir with her article "Why there was nothing natural about Stephen Gately's death", where this overpaid munter spurts industrial amounts of venom and homophobia. Look at this bit here (our emphasis):

"Another real sadness about Gately's death is that it strikes another blow to the happy-ever-after myth of civil partnerships. Gay activists are always calling for tolerance and understanding about same-sex relationships, arguing that they are just the same as heterosexual marriages. Not everyone, they say, is like George Michael.

Of course, in many cases this may be true. Yet the recent death of Kevin McGee, the former husband of Little Britain star Matt Lucas, and now the dubious events of Gately's last night raise troubling questions about what happened. It is important that the truth comes out about the exact circumstances of his strange and lonely death.

As a gay rights champion, I am sure he would want to set an example to any impressionable young men who may want to emulate what they might see as his glamorous routine. For once again, under the carapace of glittering, hedonistic celebrity, the ooze of a very different and more dangerous lifestyle has seeped out for all to see".

How do you call that? This appalling vulture takes two tragic cases: a young man who died in his sleep and another who hanged himself, to give off the most homophobic shit ever written in about a decade. What the hell has their sexuality got to do with their "hedonistic lifestyle", let alone their death?

How obnoxious would it be if, the day after Jan Moir finally pops her clogs, opinion columnists start pontificating about "the dangerous lifestyle" of eating too much and earning too much money for writing shit articles in tabloids?

Is Jan Moir really that thick not to register that scores of heterosexual celebrities engage in the same "hedonistic lifestyle" she stupidly assumes Stephen Gately and Kevin McGee were leading?

And yet she should know better. Half of what her newspaper is about is that sort of sordid stuff. The Kerry Katonas and the Jordans, the Amy Winehouses and the Russell Brands, the Ashley Coles and the Steve Joneses...Or how about the list of heterosexual celebs who killed themselves? What stuff are you on, Jan Moir, to be capable of writing such a low, vile, judgemental little story in the wake of a personal tragedy?

How can such levels of intolerance be printed on one of Britain's most popular brands of arse paper a mere two days after the news of yet another homophobic murder in London?

Is there a limit to the shameful, distasteful, hate-soaked drivel the Daily Mail can put into print?

More articles and more intolerance from the Daily Mail PDF Print E-mail

Another day, another collection of Daily Mail articles about gay people. The attitude of the Daily Mail towards gay people has been covered on this site many times before [see related articles below] and this isn't because I see myself as some kind of champion for gay rights, it is simply because I would like a like to see just a little more tolerance and understanding of the issue.

One of the main ways that the Daily Mail is stopping its readers from having a better understanding of homosexuality is that it constantly insists that gay people do not want equality but actually want domination. Therefore section (or clause) 28 that David Cameron apologised for was not about banning teaching the existence of homosexuality in schools, but a ban on promoting it. Likewise, regular homophobe Richard Littlejohn regularly states that homosexuality is taught in schools as a way of converting straight people to become homosexual. Therefore the very idea of tolerance and understanding has instead become replaced by another 'war' that threatens to undermine the 'traditional British way of life'.

This means that the Daily Mail is not homphobic or intolerant, it is instead bravely taking up the fight to protect your children from the rampaging 'gay agenda' that is bent on converting you and your family to the perverse treats of same-sex love.

Conservative Party not persecuting gays enough for Mail readers PDF Print E-mail

David Cameron has today apologised for Section 28, a law that banned the teaching about homosexual relationships in schools. The actual law - as summarised by the Daily Mail (accuracy warning) is as below:

Section 28

What is interesting is that this is another James Chapman article and the language he uses in the headline is designed to get homophobic Mail readers frothing: 'Cameron apologises to gays for Section 28: Law to ban promotion of homosexuality in schools was wrong, says Tory leader'.

The word I have a problem with is 'promotion'. It has the connotations of selling something, pushing something. In reality education that deals with homosexuality is more concerned with making people aware that homosexuality exists and that it is nothing to be ashamed of. It is essentially about acceptance, tolerance and understanding.

More 'fury' over gay adoption PDF Print E-mail
Written by Uponnothing

The Daily Mail does not like the idea of gay adoption. The Daily Mail does not like gay people full stop. Therefore it was not surprising to find another article today expressing yet more 'fury' over a gay couple adopting a child. What makes this article interesting is that those making the complaints just happen to be Catholics, you know, members of the church legendary for its reputation of abusing and raping children supposedly in its care and the church that recently excommunicated a 9 year old girl for having an abortion after being raped by her stepfather and impregnated with twins. It also excommunicated the mother and all those involved in helping with the abortion - like the doctors who suggested that childbirth was a life-threatening event for a 9 year old girl - even more so with twins.

However, abortion is of course fundamentally evil in the eyes of religious nuts, and the systematic child abuse across the globe can easily be swept under the carpet as it has been for years. Gay adoption on the other hand, that is massive news. Today's headline is: 'Catholic mother's fury after mental breakdown sees son fostered by gay couple'. Look at the way this headline is phrased. It seems to me that what it is saying is: 'not only has the poor woman had a mental breakdown, but NOW HER CHILD IS BEING GIVEN TO GAYS, HOW COULD THINGS GET ANY WORSE?'.
