Doomsday: How 4C temperature rise this century will change world beyond recognition and threaten human survival. Granted, the article is written in the Mail so readers are right to be sceptical, but the article is repeating claims made by the New Scientist and the IPCC, so it’s not exactly terrible science.
Mail readers, naturally are not to be taken in by these ‘so-called experts’ and rightly point out just ‘what a load of old codswallop’ it all is:
The planet may well warm up and these scenarios may come to pass and in the time frames stated. But it has nothing, whatsoever to do with Man, despite the continued flood of rubbish spouted by people whose income relies on keeping the lie alive. CO2 is a marginal gas in respect to the 'greenhouse' effect, water vapour is the main agent. So all this carbon nonsense spouted at you and the demand for ever more money to 'combat' global warming is just a scam.
- EyeSee, MK, 26/2/2009 12:47
So, although co2 is a proven greenhouse gas, EyeSee has read something on the web about water vapour (published no doubt by an oil-funded website) and therefore sees fit to dismiss any manmade climate change.
So the scientists predict that the earth's temperature will rise between 2C and 6.4C this century. But can they tell you if it will rain tomorrow?
- Michael, Cambridge, 26/2/2009 13:02
Predicting weather patterns are difficult, even at a local level as so many complex variables are involved. Predicting climate change is no less complicated, but here we are not dealing with absolutes, we are dealing with trends. Global warming as a trend is fairly well understood, so we know that the earth is getting and will get warmer. The variables in this case are how much hotter is it going to get, how quickly and what the various consequences will be.
This is the same bull droppings that was in Al Gore propaganda movie. According to the same predictions 10 years ago we should be well on our way to higher temperatures. Well surprise surprise, the earth temperture has been going down. Mother nature has proven that the global warming crowd is a bunch of liars. The media should stop giving them any press and the government should stop giving them money.
- Jerry, San Francisco, USA, 26/2/2009 13:05
This was a film that actually received praise from climate scientists for its accuracy - with some minor reservations. Considering the measurements provided by the IPCC show an increase in temperature, I wonder which arse he has pulled this 'fact' from, his own, or some other arse on the internet no doubt. His comment about the media giving time to myths is brilliant considering the amount of journalists publishing climate myths all the time. Including Littlejohn and his 'it's cold outside, ergo climate change is a big scam' argument he repeats each time it snows. He's not the only one though:
So when is this magic 100 years supposed to start. The so called scientist where making this claim 15 years ago. What has happened sense then. The earth average temperature has gone down. We are not getting closer to this doomsday warming story we are getting closer to a global cooling and another ice age. What idiots are still giving these people money?
- George, Milo, ME, USA, 26/2/2009 13:16
Oh no - quick everyone lets pay more tax and more to the environmentalist lobby - that'll save us. Sorry, don't believe a word of this global warming thing any more.
- John, Masar, Afghanistan, 26/2/2009 13:10
No one is asking you to believe anything John, accepting or denying climate change is not the acceptance or rejection of dogma, it is the acceptance or rejection of science. A belief can be held irrationally, which is why John is using the word here, because he does not 'believe' it he does not need to consider any of the evidence presented to him. Science can be challenged and regularly is, that is how ideas progress and develop through rigorous investigation, believes are maintained by people who do not have the capacity for real thought. Hence why they read the Mail (even if they happen to be in Afghanistan).
The Global Warming fanatics are up there with Scottish bankers and Scottish politicians when it comes to sheer dishonesty.
- Ian, Bangkok, Thailand, 26/2/2009 13:11
What do you base this comparison on Ian? I know it is a popular thing to say and you'll get lots of green ratings, but seriously do you have any idea what you are talking about? You are either dishonest, or stupid - rather like the bankers.
Primitive humans survived much greater changes, like the end of the last Ice Age. Also, carbon dioxide levels have been very much higher in previous geological ages than today and the planet was lush and tropical from pole to pole. Like when the coal and oil fields were being laid down. This alarmist talk, I suspect, is designed to squeeze more funding out of governments for geophysics research, which was once upon a time the poor cousin compared to big physics projects. Nothing like a good scare to unlock government coffers.
- Roy, Southend, UK, 26/2/2009 13:14
I can only assume Roy has seen Iceage 1 & 2 and feels informed enough on the subject to offer us his suspicions.
Patent rubbish. it would take 10 deg average rise to make the UK like the Sahara Desert. Wild life will migrate anyway. I'll be dead in 20 years myself .... so if you do get to tell me that "I told you so" from your tent with a Ouija board then well done.
- kevin, London, 26/2/2009 13:20
The old 'we're not to blame!' argument rolled out. Blame nature instead. I imagine no one wants to speak to Kevin, London, now, let alone when he is dead.
Climate change is a massive issue, it transcends political allegiance or boundaries. We are a human race, all of are responsible in some way for the world in which we live in, and currently we are not only warming the earth at an alarming rate, we are also using up fossil fuels at an alarming rate. That neither of this issues is widely or accurately reported is criminal.
If the human race survives they'll look back at this age as the 'oil age'; the period when the whole world went insane with greed and power. Grandchildren will look at the mess of the world we have left them and rightly ask us: 'what the fuck were you doing?'. Those that respond: 'reading the Mail', will, I suspect, be first against the wall. |
What a load of old codswallop!
