The media no longer ask those who know something to share that knowledge with the public. Instead they ask those who know nothing to represent the ignorance of the public and, in so doing, to legitimate it.

Sky Sports apologises after Dick Best makes live race slur against Delon Armitage:

Dick Best was being interviewed live by Sky Sports ahead of the official announcement of the British Lions squad to tour South Africa.

After his choices for the trip were displayed on screen - including Trinidad-born Armitage - Best was asked why he had selected the England player over Irish winger Tommy Bowe.

Apparently unaware that his microphone was still on, he replied: 'You've always got to have a coloured boy in the team.'

The camera then quickly cut back to the studio where black presenter Mike Wedderburn looked visibly shocked.

Only three comments have made it through (or are fit even for the Daily Mail to print):

Dumb thing to say but hardly a hanging offense. It never fails to amaze me that people get more enraged by a few silly words than they do by people getting murdered on our streets.
Humans are remarkably idiotic mammals.

Sorry Dick, but there is no defence for such a comment.

Is 5 in the red. Obviously quite a few Daily Mail readers think the comment is perfectly easy to defend.
